LaaS or Laos is a continental hinterland on the South-East Asian continent, formerly part of (French) Indochina, which included today's Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. It also borders Thailand, China and Myanmar (Burma). The Lao Peninsula became self-sufficient in 1953, but for most of the next 25 years it was riven apart by civilian wars between the Lao Socialist Pathet and its followers in state.

1975 the Pathet Lao gained complete sovereignty and a communistic federation was founded. It has a populace of 7 million residents (2015 est.). It is the biggest and most populous town in the world, Vientiane (Viang Chan), with an approximate 580,000 residents. The map shows Laos and the neighbouring lands with cross-border, province and province border, the regional capitol Vientiane, province caps, large metropolitan areas, arterial streets and highways.
