Kuala Selangor offers more than just glowworms and apes. This is my top 20 listing of the Kuala Selangor attraction. Accommodation is available in Kuala Selangor or, as it is only an hour's car ride from KL, you can simply continue another full stop. This fortress, also known as Bukit Belanda (literally "Dutch Hill"), has its remains on a low mound near the estuary of the Selangor River.

Initially it was constructed by Sultan Ibrahim, the second Sultan of Selangor, who ruled from 1782-1826. She was washed up in the creek on the mornin' of her marriage. At the beginning of Jalan Keramat Tanjong's round-about (see map) there is a small obelisk set up by the British in honor of Allied and locals who were killed during the two world wars.

There are three possible hypotheses about the origin of the name Selangor, the most colorful of which is that it comes from the words saltang and somaur and refers to two kinds of tortures that could have taken place here.

Apes are among the most beloved attractions of Kuala Selangor. While some say it was used to decapitate a traitor, others, probably, say it is where the Sultan sat to observe the sunset over his territory as he enjoyed the cool breezes blowing over this edge of the mound.

Sultan Ibrahim, who used to watch cockfights here, used to build this 12 feet high hill during his rule. Our way leads us back to the Bukit Melawati trail point, where you can also find the pick-up point and the cash register for the tram trip.

The Kuala Selangor Nature Park consists of dense groves of mangroves, mudflats and subtropical forests and is a protected area for many birds and animals. Selling homemade icecreams, dehydrated shellfish and souvenirs, they make available booklets and cards about places of interest. Opposite the river Selangor there are a few Chines e-style sanctuaries, one of which is named the Temple of the Monkey God.

Beside the pier of Kuala Selangor there are several fishing places and stores offering dry and other sea food. At nightfall, the Kuala Selangor attraction is the firefly. One of the few places in the galaxy where glowworms collect in such large numbers are the Selangor River's shores along the river.
