The Kaungmudaw Pagoda

The Kaungmudaw Pagoda is about 10 km from Sagaing, Mandalay Division, which is not very far from Mandalay town. It is one of the most famous of the Sagaing stupa, with its large whitewashed building and large cupola. It is 151 ft high and is modelled on the Great Stupa in Sri Lanka.

There are 812 columns of stones around the Zedibases. Pictures of Nats can be seen in the 120 alcoves circling the basis. This huge cupola is 46 meters (151 feet) high in the form of a perfectly hemispherical sphere and is modelled on the Maha Zeti Pagoda in Ceylon. The pagoda, also known as Rajamanisula, was constructed to remember Inwa's founding as Myanmar's imperial city.

At the foot of the pagoda are columns of stones, each 1.5 metres high. On them the design of the pagoda is noted down. First you should go to Mandalay, then to Sagaing and then to Kaungmudaw.
