The Eclipse Jetty is a Java HTTP (Web) Server and Java Servlet Container. The Jetty is an open source project that provides an HTTP server, HTTP client and javax.servlet container.

The Eclipse Jetty is a Java HTTP (Web) and Java Servlettainer. Whereas web servers are typically associated with the provision of documentation to individuals, Jetty is now often used to communicate from engine to engine, typically within large piece of code framework. The Jetty is being created as a free open code development within the Eclipse Foundation.

It is used in Apache ActiveMQ,[2]Alfresco,[3]Scalatra, Apache Geronimo,[4]Apache Maven, Apache Spark, Google App Engine,[5]Eclipse,[6]FUSE,[7]iDempiere,[8]Twitter's Streaming API[9] and Zimbra. 10 ] Jetty is also the host for open sources such as Lift, Eucalyptus, Red5, Hadoop and I2P.[11] Jetty provides the latest Java Servlet API (with JSP support) as well as HTTP/2 and WebSocketprotocol.

The Jetty was founded in 1995 and was housed at MortBay in the 1.x and 2.x releases until 2000. Between 2000 and 2005 Jetty was housed by, where the 3.x, 4.x and 5.x releases were made. From 2009, the key Jetty component was shifted to, and continues to offer integration, extension and packing of Jetty 7.x and 8.x (not 9.x)[16][17] In 2016, the master Jetty archive was shifted from Jetty to Github[18], but it is still being built under the Eclipse IP process.
