Getting to Myanmar - Three ways to get started
The majority of overseas arrivals in Myanmar (Burma) come by plane to Yangon or Mandalay Airports. A number of cruise ships stop at Yangon Thilawa Port and allow touring. Yangon Airport receives the most of our intercontinental arrivals. As there are no airlines flying directly from Europe or the USA, it is necessary for people from these areas to change to an Asiatic town.
The Yangon Internacional Airport is still the first port of call for most of our foreigners. The majority of Yangon Airport services come from Bangkok and Singapore. Bangkok and Singapore are serviced by most large global carriers. From Bangkok to Yangon it will take about one and 15 min. and 3 hrs. from Singapore.
Make sure you have to transfer to another Bangkok International Airfield. There are two major airfields in the city: and Bangkok Don Mueang International Aerodromes (DMK). Yangon International is at least 45 min by car from the town. We offer frequent air services to Yangon from: Kuala Lumpur, with Malaysia Airlines and Air Asia; Chiang Mai, with Bangkok Airways; Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, with Vietnam Airlines; Guangzhou, with Myanmar Airways International; Hong Kong, with Cathay Dragon; Kunming, with Air China; Kolkata, with Myanmar Airways International; Doha, with Qatar Airways.
The number of Mandalay International Airports is growing. The airline operates from Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Singapore and Kunming. It is more than an hour's ride from the Mandalay International Airports to the city. Currency exchanges and ATMs are available at the Aiport. An inexpensive way is to make a stopover in Bangkok and then take a cheap flight to Myanmar.
Then it is hard to get a ticket because most of the airline companies are fully book. From May to September, during the rainy season, the airline offers reduced fares. In Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur there are often good offers from low-cost carriers such as Air Asia and Nokair. Currently, eVisas allows travelers to one of Myanmar's three major internation airports:
Yangon, Mandalay or Nap Pyi Taw. Proceed to Myanmar Visas and request your eVisa now. It is possible to reach Myanmar by land at various Thai checkpoints. Myanmar's eVisa system can currently be used to travel to Myanmar from the following three points in Thailand: In order to travel to Myanmar at the point of arrival Ruili-Muse on the Yunnan China frontier, you must arrange a prior passport and visas at the Myanmar Embassy in Kunming.
Guests need an entrance permit at the Moreh-Tamu point of arrival on the boundary with India. A number of the world' s leading cruising destinations stop in Thilawa, a shallow riverbank harbour just to the south of Yangon. It is recommended that you contact the airline for information on your travel arrangements, as a proper type of Myanmar land excursion requires a proper type of travel permit.
Myanmar is available for tailor-made trips. The tour starts or ends in Yangon or Mandalay and lasts about 9 nights; visit Yangon, Bagan, Mandalay and Inle Lake.
