ACOR joins Max Myanmar Hotels deals
Accor, a leading hospitality company in France, is in talks with Max Myanmar about the opening of a Novotel in Yangon, said a spokesman for the Myanmar Conglomerates last weekend. It would be built in a Max Myanmar estate known as Pyay Tower on Pyay Road. The Max Myanmar Hospitality Group Director, U Bo Chan Tun, said the suggested facility will have 366 rooms, of which 159 will be in the 14-storey Tower A and 207 in the 16-storey Tower B. "The facility belongs to the Max Myanmar Group, but we are now in negotiation for the operating managment of the Accor Hospitality managed facility.
It will be named Novotel in Yangon," he said to the Myanmar Times. It has a prestigious suites, chalet, ballroom, boardroom, meetings room, coffee shop, winery, French restaurants, indoor pools, gym, spas and sports area. Said the hospitality will help ease the lack of rooms in Yangon and also help generate jobs.
The Pyay Tower was previously a collaborative venture between four building contractors - National Development Group, ACE, A1 and Wah Wah Wah Win - and the state. Work began in 2001, but soon came to a standstill due to financing difficulties, and Max Myanmar purchased a 60 per cent private share in 2009/10. Early this months, Bangkok Post announced that the world's second biggest hotelier Best West will open its first Myanmar facility in 2013.
According to the article, the hotelier is examining sites in Yangon and Mandalay. Best-Western, which has more than 4,000 homes under management around the world, has discussed franchise and property opportunities at Myanmar owned and operated companies, said Glenn de Souza, VP of Int'l operating in Asia and the Middle East at Best Western in Bangkok.
