The 2010 Cadastre shows that the number of inhabitants of the town was 52,838, while the overall number of inhabitants of the town and the neighbouring area was 98,461.

5 ] Grand Forks together with its sister town East Grand Forks, Minnesota, form the centre of the Grand Forks, ND-MN Metropolitan Statistical Area, often referred to as the Greater Grand Forks or the Grand Cities. Downtown Grand Forks, The Red River had a story of seasonally induced floods, exacerbated by the wide old sea beds that made up the Red River Valley.

In 1997, the flood of the Red Sea resulted in considerable damages in the town. Grand Forks sustained the largest loss of any large town in the Red Valley in 1997. However, the authorities began to develop a new dike system to safeguard the town, which was concluded 10 years later. However, the town and the authorities agreed to modify the way in which it was developed, which was permitted near the town.

Situated on the edge of the Red River, the meadow has been transformed into a large parkland known as the Greater Grand Forks GREENWARD. As a result, urban dwellers were offered new recreational areas and room for floods in the near term, which could be taken up in a natural way by tree and other vegetation without affecting the urban fabric. The East Grand Forks designed a corresponding landscaped garden on its side of the stream, as it has also been affected by major floods this year.
