Myanmar by land - Myanmar Forum

Would I like to know if there is a trip from Chiang Mai to Myanmar by coach or rail? It is possible to go to and across the Mae Sai boarder point. Take a 15- or 50-kilometre ( "Songthaew") motorcycle taxis from the central railway terminal to the Burma city.

A Burmese entry permit is required in advanced from the Bangkok Ambassador (or elsewhere). The thread has been discontinued due to apathy. If we do not comply with our policies, we will delete any postings and we retain the right to delete postings for any cause.

Intercity to Myanmar? - Yang-yang Forum

Intercity to Myanmar? Anyone know if you can take a coach from Chiang Mai to Inle Lake or Mandalay, Myanmar? And, would anyone happen to know if you can take a coach from Chiang Mai to Vientiane, Laos? I' ve been looking at the timetables of the trains and it looks like you have to go from Chiang Mai to Bangkok and then back to Vientiane.

Intercity to Myanmar? Hello, The Thai checkpoints are very restricted..... I do not think you can cross a Thai frontier if you do not have a licence from the state. You limit shore transitions to a very small range. Some Thai-Myanmar borders have been closed temporarily or unannounced for various reason.....

Intercity to Myanmar? So, I assume I've confined myself to going to Myanmar as it is? Do you happen to know anything about the Chiang Mai to Vientiane, Laos system of busses? Intercity to Myanmar? From Chiangmai there are frequent busses to the coach terminal in the frontier city of Mae Sai.

I' m not aware of any busses crossing the frontier (unlikely, because Thailand is on the right side while Burma is on the left). From Tackhilek, the city on the Burma's frontier, there is a 5 hour Kentung shuttle that requires a federal authorization to use.

I understand there are no road connections between Chiangmai and Vientiane. Intercity to Myanmar? Intercity to Myanmar? Hello, sflocal2009, The nearest Laotian frontier in Chiang Mai will be Chiang Khong..... and that's about 5 to 6 hour driving.... but there really is no straight per se way from CM to Vientiane, just because there is a narrower frontier to CM than Vientiane.

When entering Myanmar by road, you are usually limited to a small area near the checkpoint. They can' t go overland and then further into the interior like to Rangoon--- unless you've got a pregovernment authorization for it..... and when you get these approvals, they usually come with the crazy thing that they use a gouvernment tourist office or other gouvernment companies, which causes considerable cost.....

Their best chance of getting inland Myanmar is by plane. Intercity to Myanmar? Intercity to Myanmar? Thank you for any extra information....there are two of us, we also want to go to Myanmar (Burma). Intercity to Myanmar? Either way, it includes a stop and official check-in for the connecting flights to Myanmar.
