Historically, celebratory meetings during the Thingyan have resulted in an increase in drunken drivers, incidental crime and sudden force, such as a bombing of one of the water spray decks known as "Pandals", which in 2010 claimed ten lives and injured more than 170 souls. Whilst there are no known harassment specifically against US nationals, the Embassy recommends that US nationals take standard precautionary measures to guarantee your protection.
