One of Myanmar's most important touristic sites is this huge, beautiful waterfall, 900 meters above sealevel. It is 22 km long and 10 km wide and has about 150,000 inhabitants, many of whom are living on swimming islets. Inhabitants of Inlay Lakes, naturally and uncontaminated, are renowned for its beautiful landscape and the rare breeding of the Inthas, the indigenous lakes.
If you are flying from Yangon to Heho, the closest airfield to the sea, is the most comfortable way. The drive by the Shan Plateau along the curvy upward leading street is the closest stop to the sea interesting. Situated at the entrance to Inlay Lake, Nayung-shwe has recently constructed cottages with state-of-the-art lakefront amenities and state-of-the-art inns.
It is the biggest lake town and its roads are a network of channels. A number of nice tree-timber buildings have been erected on large piles of wood that have been floated into the lake floor.
