traveling
Burma has become an ever more attractive travel destinations since the transfer of powers from junta to civil government in 2011. Ninety per cent Buddhist, the land is home to tens of thousand of unique and dazzling decorated shrines and sanctuaries. The 350-foot Shwedagon Pagoda is gold-plated with a jewel-encrusted tower set with over 4,500 beads.
Out of the capitol you will see the many Buddha statues of Bago before you hover in a warm aeroplane over the 4,000 holy Stupa on the Bagan plain or slide in a small wood craft between the lily trees on Lake Inle, which is traditionally poised by a canoeist on one foot.
At Mandalay, the second biggest town in the land, you will cross the U Bein Bridge, the longest pedestrian bridge in the word, before you enjoy a dinner with lephettuce, a tealeaf lettuce. Make a one-hour excursion across the Ayeyarwady River to Mingun to see the gigantic, if never finished, shrine, marked by drastic ruptures of an 1838 quake, and see the gorgeous Hsinbyume Pagoda, surrounded by whitewashed undulating hills.
