Thai border

Myanmar's long-running conflicts have had a negative impact on the life of several hundred thousand civilian populations in Myanmar's border areas. Despite the unreliability of the numbers, it is expected that more than one million refugees will be forced into Myanmar's border area to the east. Thailand's ten Myanmar bordering counties are inhabited by 6.8 million Thais, over 120,000 IDPs in nine UNHCR-led centres and an estimated 500,000 to 1 million unregistered and migrant population.

The greatest problem of human rights is that many people do not have medical care, have higher levels of mortality and pose a number of threats to human security, such as low vaccination coverage. Whilst some members of the vulnerable immigrant populations are living in residential areas, others are very active and move back and forth across the border.

There is growing concern about the spread of diseases such as multi-resistant TB, tick-borne encephalitis, diabetes, measles as well as drug-resistant Malaria. The border regions are particularly concerned about the outbreak of insecticides such as insecticide, pandemic influenza, insecticide and mutagen. The Nargis cyclone hit Myanmar on 4 May, with the US administration estimating at least 15,000 dead and ten thousand sheltered. The helpers try to evaluate the damages and help, but accessibility is hard and freedom of motion is limited.
