Bilines, bilans or biliary dyes are organic pigments that are produced in many living beings as a metabolite of certain porphyrines. Biline (also known as Bilichrom ) has been described as a mammal gall dye, but is also found in lower vertebrate animals, invertebrate animals, red algal, foliage and cyano bacteria. Bilines can be available in the colours either pink, white, orange, amber, dark grey, dark grey, dark grey, dark blue or green.

Chemically speaking, bilines are straight arrays of four pyrroles (tetrapyrroles). It is a degradation toxin of haem in the body's metabolic system. Hydroxymethylbilan is an important bio-synthetic reagent of porphobilinogen (PBG) and porporphyrinogen I synthetase (known as Porphobilinogen deaminase).
