Medicaid Supply Executive sentenced to 36 month in prison for her role in a $30 million scheme to cheat Medicare and Medicaid | USAO-SDNY

The prosecutor of the Southern District of New York, Geoffrey S. Berman, today said that MARINA BURMAN has been convicted to 36 month in jail. BURMAN, the former President of a medical supply firm, entered about $3. 4 million in scam invoices to the New York State Medicaid program, wrongly alleging to have spent adulthood nappies and other medical supplies that were not medically necessary and in many cases not spent at all.

Burgan was convicted today by US district judge Lorna G. Schofield. From 2007 to 2013, BURMAN's ex-husband and co-defendant, Aleksandr Burman, ran six medical hospitals in Brooklyn (the "clinics") that charged Medicare and Medicaid approximately $30 million for medical care and deliveries that were unnecessarily or otherwise falsely billing.

New York State requires that medical hospitals be run and run by a medical practitioner. In order to avoid this demand, Aleksandr Burman, who was not a physician, employed physicians who posed as the nominee owner of each of the hospitals. Throughout the scam, as part of the scam, the physicians also subscribed to medical maps incorrectly stating that they had checked Patients, and written decrees and recommendations for medically unneeded Tests and supplies, includ-ing the $3. 4 million in adults nappies and other supplies spent by BURMANs Medical Prod.

Rather than actually receiving many of these stocks, consumers traded their recipes for goods such as linen, table cloths, crockery, cooking utensils and other household goods. To promote the scam, BURMAN also mistakenly resisted Medicare and Medicaid as the exclusive owners of the medical supply business, hiding the fact that she had this business with her then-wife Aleksandr Burman.

A total of 11 accused were indicted for their involvement in this health care program of defraud. Alexandr Burman pleaded culpable and was imprisoned for 120 month on May 8, 2017. The two physicians (Mustak Y. Vaid and Ewald J. Antoine), two clinic directors (Asher Oleg Kataev and Alla Tsirlin) and two people who ran two of the clinics and a related ambulance association (Ivan Voychak and Edward Miselevich) are convicted and waiting for their conviction.

Another three accused - a physician (Paul J. Mathieu), a physiotherapist (Hatem Behiry) and an ergotherapist (Lina Zhitnik) - are to go to court on November 26, 2018. BURMAN MARINA, 55, of Manhattan, pleaded culpably for healthcare scams and conspiracies to establish healthcare scams, postal scams and wiring scams before Judge Schofield on November 14, 2017.

As well as imprisonment, Judge Schofield ordered BURMAN to lose six condominiums that had been financed with the money from the health care scam program and reimburse Medicaid $3,415,363.
