Pumtek's (meaning "buried thunderbolt") and Pyu pearls (800 BC-200 AD) are among Burma's pearls, as are several other modern objects. About 1500-2000 years ago Pumtek were made of opalised palm wood and engraved in various characteristic designs. Like with the freeze-dried pearls, nobody is sure which method was used to etch the pearls.
Newer' Pums' are from the beginning of this centuries, when the offer of the old pearls lagged behind the request. They are made of fossilized (but not opalized) handwood and are also gathered. The Pyu beads are usually made of a kind of argate like cartoule.
The' Military Beads' should have stood in this time a ranking and are estimated, if the streaked colour is dark and sheer. Among the pyu beads, the elephant is the most abundant and is often found in either greenery, carnelius or pot.
