United States Airlines, Inc. "Going for Great" "Going for Great" "Great is what we're going for" Die beiden Organisationen, aus denen American Airlines hervorgegangen ist, waren Robertson Aircraft Corporation und Colonial Air Transport. In 1930, the airline was transformed into an airline and renamed American Airways.

When in 1934 new legislation and the abrasion of postal agreements caused many airlines to reorganise, the airline changed its route network to an affiliated system and was re-named American Airlines. From 1970 to 2000, the airline developed into an intercontinental airline that purchased Trans World Airlines in 2001. Starting November 2013, American Airlines and American Eagle were awarded $10,011,836 in government grants for Essential Air Services each year.

Cabin Crew for American airlines (Envoy - formerly American Eagle), Piedmont and PSA are all members of the Association of Air Traffic Attendant - Communications Workers of America (AFA-CWA). It is the main sponsorship of two playgrounds: The American Airlines Center (Dallas Mavericks), (Dallas Stars) et American Airlines Arena (Miami Heat).

Goodrich Murphy, an American co-worker, created the AA emblem in 1931. 34 ][35] Thirty years later, in 1997, American Airlines was able to make its logotype Internet-enabled by purchasing the AA.com name. AAA is also America's two-letter IATA carrier identifier. America's early costumes differed greatly, but in the 1930' a joint painting with an e-agle was introduced on the hull.

The Adler became the emblem of the airline and the inspiration for the name American Éagle Airlines. At the end of the 1960' the American builder Massimo Vignelli ordered the development of a new paint finish. Originally designed with a strip of stripes of red, black and silver on the hull and a plain "AA" emblem without an adler on the stern, Vignelli designed a heavily stylised adler instead, which would remain the company's emblem until 2013.

1999 American paintworked a new Boeing 757 (N679AN) in its 1959 color. The same paintwork is applied to ERJ-145s by American Eagle, the airline's local carrier. In the early 2000s, San Jose Airport - American shut down its San Jose Airport turnstile. It began its expansion plan until 1991 on December 2, 1988, shortly after American Air took over Cal and was looking for a North California turnstile in either San Jose or San Francisco.

In the mid-1990s, Reno Air turned San Jose into a turnstile after the Americans ruled that the West Coast rivals made the turnstile uneconomic and shut it down. It is the only American airline to fly to Barranquilla, Belo Horizonte, Brasilia, Budapest, Cali, Caracas, Fort-de-France, La Paz, Manaus, Maracaibo, Montevideo, Pointe-a-Pitre, San Salvador (Bahamas), Santa Cruz de la Sierra and Varadero.

Since March 2018, American Airlines has operated a total of 1,536 aircraft[7], making it the biggest merchant airline worldwide. More than two third of American airplanes are narrow-bodies, mainly Airbus A 320 and Boeing 737-800. The widebody jets are mainly Boeing airplanes. First is America's flagship global leader.

For many years, Admirals Club memberships (and most other airlines lounges) were at the airline's request. Following a discriminatory action against a passenger[109], the club (and most other airlines' lounges) moved to a paying affiliation programme.
