British Library's early English-language Indian newspapers are based on two very beautiful historical collections: newspapers from the former India Office Library, which are kept in the British Library on film only. Highpoints of the compilation are: a very uncommon issue of Hicky's Bengal Gazette (1780-1782), completed with exceptional editions; other curiosities, among them the Madras document, The Hircarrah (1794), also with exceptional and complementary editions; extensive editions of Calcutta newspapers, among them The Bengal Catholic Expositor and The Bengal Hurkaru; an issue of almost 50 years of The Friend of India Week.
