New Alitalia does not own many of its aircraft. Nearly every aircraft CAI had purchased from the old Alitalia was either divested or closed down. Alitalia CAI aircraft are mainly rented from Aircraft Purchase Fleet (it),[18] an Irish based business held by Carlo Toto, the former owners of bankrupt[9]Air One, which was amalgamated with Alitalia CAI in 2008 when the new entity was formed.

Alitalia had its first jubilee since the re-launch in January 2010. 20 ] On February 1, 2010, it was declared that the occupation of Alitalia would go on a four-hour wage-striking. It was the first time Alitalia had gone on strikes since the re-launch. On February 11, 2010 Alitalia announces that it will operate Air One as a low-fare carrier ("Smart Carrier") at Milan Malpensa Airport from March 2010.

by 2012. 20 ] Although the operation was originally to be focused on Milan Malpensa, Air One started operating from Milan-Malpensa, Venice-Marco Polo, Pisa and Catania in January 2013. Etihad Airways, the Abu Dhabi-based domestic carrier, informed in June 2014 that it would acquire 49% of the shares in Alitalia.

29 ] On September 30, 2014, Alitalia's budgetary daughter Air One stopped operating its flights. After Alitalia staff refused the cost reduction plan on 25 April 2017, the company announces that it will go through insolvency proceedings starting with the nomination of an administrative officer. 33 ] The Alitalia was allowed by the ltalian authorities to declare insolvency on 2 May 2017.

36 ] Ryanair showed interest in Alitalia, but abandoned his offer after the chaotic flight of Ryanair[1]. Alitalia used different slogans: Alitalia upgraded its fleets between 2009 and 2011 with 34 new jets, while 26 older jets were phased out. Refurbishment ended at the beginning of 2013.

20 ] These new aircraft do not belong to Alitalia itself, but are mainly rented by Aircraft Buy fleet, an Irish lease agency founded by former Air One proprietor Carlo Toto, mainly to acquire the new Alitalia family. In January 2015 it was made known that seven wide-body aircraft with an A330-200 in a new paint finish would be added to the aircraft portfolio from May 2015.

An Airbus A320-200 (EI-DSA), previously Air One coated, was coated in a specific "Alitalia.com" finish on 19 July 2010. This aircraft now wears Alitalia SAI paint. An Airbus A330-200 (EI-DIR), previously in Air One paint, was coated in SkyTeam in November 2013.

An Airbus A330-200 (EI-EJG) and an Airbus A320-200 (EI-DSM) were coated in a custom paint job for Calabria in March 2014. The EI-EJG now has Alitalia SAI paint and EI-DSM is now for sale to Congo Airways. An Airbus A319-100 (EI-IMI) was coated in a custom paint finish for Friuli Venezia Giulia in April 2014.

This aircraft will be coated with Alitalia SAI from August 2015. An Airbus A330-200 (EI-EJM) was coated for the 2015 Exhibition in October 2014 in collaboration with its associate Etihad Airways. The aircraft is now Alitalia SAI-coated. Here are the events since the commissioning of Alitalia CAI on 13 January 2009:
