Between 1871-72, the unorderly behaviour of Khalkom, a Mizo chieftain, forced the Brits to set up an army post, which later became the town of Aizawl.... In 1890, Assam police sergeant and his 400 men came to Aizawl to assist Colonel Skinner's forces during a UK army mission against the Mizo tribal people.

At Dally's suggestion, Aizawl was chosen as the site for a fort Colonel Skinner had commissioned to build. In 1892-95 Aizawl became open from Silchar on a beautiful meteorological street under the surveillance of Major Loch. During the Mizo National Front insurrection in March 1966, the Indian Luftwaffe launched aerial attacks on the city, which led to MNF retreating to Lunglei.

Until 1966 Aizawl was a large community, but the rearrangement of the Mizo communities after the rebellion made it a bigger community and then a community. In Mizoram, Aizawl has become the center of the road system linking northern and southern, eastern and western areas. Over 25% of the Mizoram people live in Aizawl.

The town of Aizawl lies just outside the Tropic of Cancer in the northerly part of Mizoram. At 1,132 meters above sealevel, it lies on a crest, with the Tlawng Riversal to the west and the Tuirial Riversal to the east. Aizawl' s economic system is essentially supported by state service, as it is the capitol of Mizoram.

Aizawl is also home to the most important banking institutions. The Regency is a 3-star 3-star resort recently opened in Zarkawt, a key downtown town. There is a much needed facility for tourist and tourist travellers in Aizawl. Beside the Regency there are other accomodations. Among them are - Hôtel Sangchia in Zarkawt, Hôtel Grand in Zarkawt, Hôtel Floria in Dawrpui, Ritz Hôtel in Canteen Kual, Tourist Lodge in Chaltlang, Chawlhna Hôtel in Zarkawt, Riakmaw Inn in Zarkawt, Hôtel Ahimsa in Zarkawt and many other cheap Hôtels.

It is planned to link Bairabi with Sairang with a wide line near Aizawl. 17 ] There is also a map for a 5 km long Aizawl monorail that runs between Zemabawk and Kulikawn. The Aizawl is linked to Silchar via National Highway 54, to Agartala via National Highway 40 and to Imphal via National Highway 150.

In Aizawl the most important sights are: The Bara Bazaar is the principal commercial center of Aizawl in the village of Dawrpui Veng. It is the place where locals are best seen in their costume, sell products from the farmers, and import from China that pass through the Myanmar frontier area.

Millennium Center in the same village is a favourite mall. The Mizoram State Museum is situated in the center of the city in Zarkawt. The Reiek Tourism Resort, a touristic resort 12 km from Aizawl, is a wonderful place at an altitude of 1548 meters with a Mizo village tradition.

The Durtlang Hills on the north side of Aizawl offer a beautiful sight to the mountain stations of Durtlang Hospital or Aizawl Theological College. The Berawtlang tourist complex is located 7 km from Aizawl and is a leisure center for culture activites. The Khuangchera Puk is a cavern in Ailawng near Reiek, about 30 km from Aizawl.

The Folkland Entertainment Parc is located on the north outskirts of Aizawl and is the first theme parc in Mizoram. The church colleges are run by the Baptist Church of Mizoram, the Presbyterian Church of India (Synod), several Catholic orders (St. Pauls Higher Secondary School, Mary Mount School, St. Lawrence School, St. Mary's School) and the Seventh-day Adventists (Helen Lowry).

The Kendriya Vidyalaya, Aizawl, is another Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan led Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan near Zembawk. Others are the Home Missions, Mount Carmel and Oikos Higher Secondaryools. Several of the main venues in Aizawl are: ikimedia Commons has created medias related to Aizawl.
