"This year they made a contract to substitute their Boeing aircrafts in 2015, so I think they were suspected because they are forming their crews," he said. Just one months after Air Mandalay signs a cooperation agreement with Boeing in which the two airlines are working together to purchase Boeing 737s via lease routes to help Air Mandalay expand.
The Boeing declined to talk about the transaction last weekend with a spokesman who said: "The formal answer is that we are not commenting on our client activities". However, U Sai Kham Park Hpa said the agreement was related to a proposed global roll-out and not to the provision of air transport for internal flights.
At the beginning of the year, Air Mandalay placed an order with Mitsubishi to supply six MRJ90s, making it the first airline in Asia outside Japan to order the joint development with Toyota. This contract, which also gave Air Mandalay a call warrant for another four MRJ90s, was concluded during the Farnborough Airshow in the UK in July.
