Air Asia flights to Terminal 1 in Yangon

On 28 June, low-cost airline operating company AirAsia Group relocated its Yangon operation from Terminal 2 to the new Terminal 1. Air Asia states in a declaration that from now on travellers traveling on all Malaysia AirAsia (flight codes AK) and Thai AirAsia (flight codes FD) must register at Terminal 1.

You can reach the old one within a short walk of the new one. This $600 million new plant was constructed by Yangon Aerodrome Company Limited (YACL), a division of Tycoons Steven Law-owned Asia World, and opened in March to begin increasing air travel to Yangon. Malaysi AirAsia runs two services from Kuala Lumpur and Penang to Yangon, while Thai AirAsia serves a flight from Bangkok to Yangon with 45 weekly departures.

Before Air Asia moved, there was only one carrier in the new airport building - the state-owned Myanmar National Airways. Twenty eight multinational companies are flying to Yangon and several new companies have already introduced new itineraries. Burma has also recently concluded air transport agreements with the Netherlands, Mongolia and Bhutan to allow more companies into the state.
