The Botanic Garden, formally known as the National Kandawgyi Garden, was opened in 1915 and is still very well preserved today.
There' s a high observation deck from which you can see 360° around the whole area and over to Pyin Oo Lwin and surroundings. The Pwe Gauk cascades, a number of small cascades and a favourite meeting place for local people, especially during the holiday, are located to the west of Pyin Oo Lwin.
It is a nice place to rest and for an afternoons you will find basic refreshments in the area, and it will take about 15 min. to get there by car from Pyin Oo Lwin. Its most spectacular is the Dat Taw Gyaint Falls, just outside Anisakan, southwest of Pyin Oo Lwin.
Located at the top of a gorge, the bottom part of the falls sprays into a swimming pools with clear waters. There' s an extraordinary earth pit by the swimming poolside, and there are snack and drink after a half-hour stroll from the parking lot up in the gorge.
Looking onto the Dat Taw Gyaint Falls from the opposite side of the gorge is The View Restuarant, which is connected to a nearby motel. Peik Chin Myaung is one of the most beautiful caves in Myanmar, with colorful buddhistic scenery, a large number of sanctuaries and a scenic cascade at the entry.
It' located about 20 km eastwards of Pyin Oo Lwin on the Lashio highway. Seven Waterfall Trek is a dramatic walk through the dense jungles leading to some stunning falls. Here you can find out more about the walk and similar activities. In order to discover the area around Pyin Oo Lwin, you can either rent a cab (approx. K40,000 for a whole day) or ride your own motorcycle (K10,000 per day).
One of Myanmar's most intriguing travels is by Pyin Oo Lwin's railway to the picturesque and relaxed city of Hsipaw (or further to Lashio), which includes the north Shan Mountains and the renowned Gokteik Gorge and overpass. Around Pyin Oo Lwin there are a number of places to eat.
Pyin Oo Lwin Ballooning is held in November - it is similar, but smaller than the Taunggyi event that is held at the same season. Visa and Mastercard-enabled KBZ and CB cash machines are available at Mandalay to Lashio Road in the center of Pyin Oo Lwin.
