Shwe Kyaung monastery in Mandalay is the most
 significant of Mandalay’s historic buildings, since
 this ‘Golden Palace Monastery’ remains the sole
 major survivor of the former wooden Royal Palace
 built by King Mindon in the mid-nineteenth century.
