Hi Felicia – yes that is called “ghosting” and it is caused by the trees not being in the same spot in each of the shots you’ve taken. So use the “remove ghosting” option and set it to medium or high and see if that helps.

I have used this method of merging and have just realized recently that there seems to be some sort of distortion (not sure what kind) happening around leaves or things against the sky. Attached is a low res along with a screen shot of the distortion I pulled from the right side trees. Any idea what might be causing this and how I can avoid?

Sorry I missed your comment here. Yes that option was not added until LR6 and later. You would need to upgrade to get it.

I tried using LR to create HDR but my dropdown seems different than yours and hence it doesn’t allow me to merge photos( see attached screenshot) could it be that my LR 5 is too old?
