A Letter to our Readers

Dear Readers,

Once again the cool season is here, a season most enjoyed by the Myanmar people and visitors alike.

Hpone Thant went to Bagan, this time not to pray at temples but to check out the bricks. Bricks!!?? Read his article to find out why he found them so fascinating.

Our Orchid Man U Kyaw Nyunt again went into the wilds, this time to the Hkakaborazi National Park of the Kachin State. This time, he proved that Paphiopedilum tigrinum, one of the rare species of Paphiopedilum orchid found in China in 1990 also grows in Myanmar.

As usual our Art Director U Sonny Nyein also provided gorgeous photos of the ancient images of Pindaya Caves surrounded by stalactites and stalagmites, beautiful offerings of nature. You will learn about the rare "healing" or Bithetkaguru Image that gives longivity and good health.

Sein Myo Myint is a well-known award-winning photographer of Myanmar who loves to travel. His interesting experiences on the remote Ledo Road with his artist friends has been adapted and translated by Hpone Thant.

The country artist, the folk art maker, is often overlooked but their creativity is diverse, charming and unique. This issue displays a selection of folk art pieces out of the thousands that are available: our only regret is that we could not present every single one of them.

As we enter the New Year, we wish our readers all the best: may peace and joy reign on this world.
